Medication Therapy
Medications for mental health are aimed at providing symptoms relief, thereby improving your quality of life. Some medications are taken as needed for symptoms, providing temporary symptom relief, others need to be taken regularly every day in order to work.

Some conditions can be treated short-term, many other's require longer term. Medication is just one piece of the treatment plan, often hand and hand with therapy. Many conditions, such as certain personality disorders and trauma related disorders, require therapy to achieve true remission.

Medications are not a "one size fits all", for some it can be a process finding the right medication or right combination. Everything we put in our body, caffeine, nicotine, alcohol etc. has potential side effects. Prescription medications can also cause side effects. Most of these side effects will be mild and temporary, and go away after the first couple of weeks.

My approach is to target your most distressing symptoms first. Start with low doses and titrate up to the "least effective dosage". It's your body, we will work together to find the right treatment plan, including medication when indicated. I will use some therapy techniques during our visits. When needed we will help you find more focused psychotherapy with a partner therapist.
